Introduction
If you grew up in Pakistan, chances are you’ve enjoyed a plate of Rahu (Rohu) fish at family dinners. This freshwater favorite has a soft, mild flesh that soaks up spices beautifully, making it a true star in curries and masala gravies. The larger size means more meat on each cut, with a juicy texture that holds up well whether you’re frying golden steaks, grilling over charcoal, or steaming it gently for a lighter meal. It’s the kind of fish that feels both comforting and versatile — equally perfect for everyday cooking and special gatherings.
Looking to try something new next time? Alongside Rahu, you might also enjoy Red Snapper, or Emperor (Mulla Fish) — all equally popular choices for Karachi seafood lovers and each bringing its own unique flavor to the table.
Flavor Profile
The flesh of Rohu is white, tender, smooth in texture, and mild with practically no “fishy” taste. Just about anyone should find it enjoyable. You should also expect some bones in Rahu meat.
